Break out of a relationship rut

So you know everything there is to know about each other, eaten at every restaurant in town, and seen all of the movies at the local Cineplex (twice.) Here’s what to do when your relationship feels stuck on repeat:

Go Somewhere, Anywhere

In long-term relationships, it’s easy to settle into routines and autopilot through day-to-day conversations with your partner. To shake things up, sometimes escaping your old routines
requires a new setting. Whether to Morocco or to the neighboring town, plan a trip for just the two of you. There’s nothing like experiencing new foods and people to make you bond and engage
with each other (not to mention the fun you will have!)

Reinvent date night

Remember as a kid, how your parents left you alone with a babysitter every third Friday night? Well, if you can’t make time for a trip, then do the next best thing by taking a cue from your
parents and planning a date night. According to a recent article in the New York Times, several experiments have shown that participating in new activities releases chemical surges in your brain
that are reminiscent of those butterflies you felt when you first met. So if at all possible, try to do something on your date that may be out of your normal comfort zone, like parasailing or
eating sushi in the buff.

Sex it Up

If your relationship is in a rut, then possibly your sex life has become routine as well. While you don’t have to swing naked from chandeliers, having sex in a new locale may be all
that’s needed to create some sizzle. There’s nothing like a little exhibitionism to get your heart pounding – just be careful not to be caught!

Bring it Back

Reinvigorate your relationship by re-creating the honeymoon phase. What was it attracted you in the first place – what it his voice or the way he scrunches his nose when he thinks? Try
rekindling the flames by leaving him love notes in unexpected places or sending racy text messages at work about what you want to do to him later. Don’t underestimate the element of surprise
either – Take a cue from the seductresses of yesteryear and meet him at the door wearing nothing but a trench coat and some sexy heels.

If you’re feeling downhearted, keep in mind that all couples will experience highs and lows throughout their relationships; it’s how you deal with the lows that matters.
