How to get the lust back in your libido

We all know that the desire to get down with your partner can fade at times. But, seriously, ladies, in our 20s, 30s and 40s, we should be raging sex goddesses. Sometimes, though, it’s more than a hectic life that keeps us from wanting to have sex.

Are you happy in your relationship?

Are you into your partner? Sometimes our bodies have a pseudo-allergic-I’m-just-not-that-into-you reaction to people. And that may just be the case with you. If you have zero lust in your libido, I urge you to look into your relationship and decide if you’re happy.

Is stress interfering in your intimate life?

Stress causes hormonal imbalances (via the brain chemicals adrenaline and cortisol) and these stress-induced hormonal imbalances could be what’s making your sex drive suck. Chill out and manage your stress so you can get into sex!

Are you really just too tired?

Try some cordyceps. This is a widely used Chinese herb (it’s actually a fungus) that boosts the immune system, promotes vitality, reduces the signs of aging and enhances libido. New Chapter makes a great organic cordyceps product.

Maybe your hormones are out of whack?

A low sex drive can be an indication of a hormonal imbalance. Try going completely organic with your diet, avoid hormonally-treated dairy and meats, cut out processed foods and avoid white sugar, white flour and soy.  All of these types of foods can have a negative effect on the hormone levels in your body.

Take a cod liver oil or fish oil supplement

The essential fatty acids that these oils contain play an important role in helping our body’s produce and regulate hormones. Two of my favorite brands: Green Pastures (greenpasture.org) and Nordic Naturals.

The pill

If you’re currently taking an oral contraceptive chances are you have zero sex drive. The pill shuts down hormonal production in your body to prevent ovulation from occurring. The same hormones the help you ovulate put the lust in your libido.  If this is you, and going off the pill isn’t a realistic option, try incorporating the dietary changes I mention above to help you sexy up your sex drive.

Is it your meds?

Pharmaceuticals, like anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications, dull your feelings so that you are less sensitive to outside stimuli. In the same token, they’ll dull your desire to have sex. If this is you, talk with your prescribing doctor about switching to a medication with less libido-reducing side effects.

Are you a pot head?

Smoking too much pot can seriously suck the lust for sex right out of you (not to mention your lust for life too). Drop the drugs to get your sex life back!

Have you lost your Mo-Jo?

Maybe you’re not feeling as hot and appealing as you once did? If this is you find some ways to get your confidence back! One thing I like to encourage woman to do is a little positive self-talk. Try this, look into the mirror and say the following, “I love and accept myself. I love the woman that I am.” Here’s the thing though, you’ve got to say it like you mean it.

Use it or Lose it

Girl, sometimes you gotta fake it til you make it. If nothing else seems out of whack, then maybe you’ve just got to get over it and get back in bed with your partner! Rekindle that lover’s lust!
