Date movies men will love

As the weather gets colder, snuggling on the couch with some popcorn and a movie is a no-brainer when it comes to date ideas. However, choosing a movie that both you and your guy will both want to watch? That takes some thinking.

Whether your movie rentals come packaged in a Netflix box, via OnDemand, or from a
pilgrimage to the video rental store, finding a film that both you and your guy will want to see is always a tricky feat.

In general, most men love films packed with plenty of violence, slapstick, and nudity whereas women tend to be drawn more to flicks with romance, happy endings, and anything with Jennifer Aniston
in them. And while you could solve the dilemma by taking turns renting the movie of your choice, date night isn’t much fun when one person is asleep.

Not to worry, though. There are plenty of movies currently out that both you and your man will love. Read our five picks below before your next movie night at home.

Movie #1: Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)

I know what you’re thinking: another slapstick film starring Seth Rogen, ugh. But stay with me for a second, because Zack and Miri Make a Porno may possibly be the greatest film
of all time. Not because its plot requires a lot of deep thought or because Seth and co-star Elizabeth Banks demonstrate any Meryl Steep-worthy acting skills, but because it embodies possibly the
slickest marketing scheme ever: taking an otherwise sweet romcom and putting the word ‘porn’ in the title, so that is appeals to guys. Brilliant!

What he’ll like: Tongue-in-cheek appearances by real-life porn stars Katie Morgan and Traci Lords.

What you’ll like: The blossoming romance between Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen’s character as well as Mac cutie Justin Long’s hilarious cameo performance as Bobby Long.

Movie #2: Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)

Vicky Cristina Barcelona may be a story about three women in love with one handsome Spanish Casanova guy, played to perfection by Javier Bardem, but thanks to Woody Allen’s witty,
trademark dialogue, and the three very attractive leading ladies, the film holds appeal for both women and men.

What he’ll like: The steamy lip-lock scene between Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson.

What you’ll like: Penelope Cruz’s fiery performance, the picturesque shots of Barcelona and the Spanish countryside, the romance…

Movie #3: Casino Royale (2006)

Skip the latest Bond film — the much more mindless Quantum of Solace — and, instead, rent Daniel Craig’s debut film as 007. While it wouldn’t be a James Bond film without
a few car-chases and beautiful women mixed in, the action in this installment is surprisingly low-key, compared to Bond movies in the past, and (gasp!) 007 actually falls in love.

What he’ll like: The action, duh.

What you’ll like: Shots of Craig’s hard-as-steel abs and the gorgeous scenery in such places as Monaco and Miami.

Movie #4: About a Boy (2002)

Although men will generally run away at the words “Hugh Grant,” this 2002 film about a womanizing slacker who befriends a young boy in order to romance Rachel Weisz and its cool soundtrack should
keep them in their seats.

What he’ll like: Did I mention Rachel Weisz already?

What you’ll like: Hugh Grant changes his womanizing ways and bonds with a kid, all in the name of love.

Movie #5: The Princess Bride (1987)

For those looking for a classic date night movie, you can do no wrong with the ’80s hit, The Princess Bride, a mixture of fantasy, romance, and slapstick comedy.

What he’ll like: “My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!”

What you’ll like: Westley’s hopeless devotion to Buttercup … Sigh.
