With all these newfangled holidays (like National Boss Day), it is hard to keep track of what is going on when. Well, tomorrow is Sweetest Day and if you’ve never heard of it, you’re not alone.
Sweetest Day was first celebrated in 1922 and falls on the third Saturday in October each year. It was started by Herbert Birch Kingston who was employed by an Ohio candy company. Although many view it as a second Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day is more about celebrating all those that make your life special. It is an opportunity to let those people around you know that they are special and that they make you happy. What is better than a chance to celebrate with relatives and friends?

Originally celebrated in the Great Lakes region and the northeast, Sweetest Day has spread throughout the United States. It is not associated with any particular religion or ethnic group and is just a reminder that a thoughtful deed, word or small gift goes a long way for the recipient as well as the person giving it.
Not everyone believes that Sweetest Day is all about kindness. Haters out there think Sweetest Day was created to boost candy sales. In my opinion, any day that is focused on saying thank you to those you love is okay in my book. Life is short.
