Women often have a bad reputation for nagging. But really, all we’re trying to do is make sure our men are listening. Rather than watch his eyes glaze over as you give him yet another reminder to take out the trash, check out our tips for getting your guy to listen.
Watch your tone
No one likes to feel like they’re being reprimanded or scolded for no reason, so try to keep your voice even and calm while making a point to your man. If he feels at all like you’re attacking him or blaming him for something, he may get defensive and turn what started off as a discussion into an argument. If you want him to listen, be firm but friendly.
Minimize distractions
If you want to get your guy to listen, it’s a good idea to turn off the TV so he’s less likely to tune out. Politely ask him to put away his phone or close his laptop while you talk. And the same goes for you. If you want him to listen, you have to be engaged as well, which means making eye contact – with him, not your iPhone.
Don’t talk down to him
He’s not a child (even if he sometimes acts like one) so don’t talk to him like he’s still in elementary school. Patronizing him will just make him tune out or get upset, so do your best to level with him like an adult and hope he takes in what you have to say.
