Host a royal wedding brunch

Not invited to the royal wedding tomorrow? That’s okay — you can still celebrate in style with an authentic British brunch. We polled Julie Subotky, author of Consider It Done, for details on how to host your own chic a.m. affair.

With less than 24 hours until the epic “I Dos”, hype for the Royal Wedding is at an all time high. At this point, there isn’t a blog, TV, or tabloid NOT broadcasting the final details of the very public affair. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em – even if you’re far away from the action.

Always looking for an excuse to throw a party, we caught up with lifestyle expert Julie Subotky, author of Consider It Done, to get some quick last minute advice on how to host your very own royal brunch.

“TV viewing parties, especially royal ones, are great opportunities for mixers, because they provide at least one guaranteed topic of conversation,” says Julie.

Julie’s top Brunch tips

DRESS

It’s fun to go over the top,” says Julie. “Make it a big deal and encourage guests to wear their old bridesmaids dresses.”

FOOD

“Tea and crumpets make the most logical choice. If you’re looking for heartier grub, try cucumber sandwiches, or try Epicurean.com to find a bevy of British Brunch recipes. Remember to have a buffet for a brunch – it’s much easier to pull together at the last minute.”

Or try a fruitcake! Check out our recipe here >>

DECOR

“Royalty is all about the jewels. Get a great selection of costume baubles and use them for your centerpiece in a nice jewelry box. Everyone can play dress up and one lucky winner will go home with the gift as a parting gift.”

PICTURES

“To get everyone in the spirit, display a large photo of Kate and William so guests can take pictures with the bride and groom. Print them right there – and get some frames! Arts and crafts will help pass the time watching the ceremony, plus you’ll have instant party favors for your guests to take home.”
