With so many people praising the power of visualization as a weight loss tool, it helps to be able to get a clear picture of what you would look like when you shed 10, 20, even 100 pounds. Being able to actually see an image – and not just imagine it in your head – could be a huge help if you’re battling the bulge. We found weight loss technology that helps you visualize yourself at your goal weight and increases your odds at weight loss success.
Betty, who blogs at www.seebettyrun.com used WeightMirror and shared her photos with her blog readers.
Now you see it, now you don’t
Thanks to the Internet, there are a variety of weight loss visualizers out there, and WeightMirror is one of the coolest because it takes just a minute to see what you’ll look like a few pounds thinner. In addition to meditating about weight loss and envisioning my dream number on the scale, I decided that I’d give it a shot. After all, I’d love to get a peek at what I’d look like with fewer “el-bees.”
Click, wait, lose weight!
When you go to the site, it’s easy to get started. Actually, you just have to have to upload a picture and wait a few moments. Once you click the disclaimer that this doesn’t replace medical advice, your photo comes up. You don’t even have to register.
Next, enter your weight and height on the left. Then use your mouse to move the pointer up and down on the weight gain/weight loss bar. You can see what you’d look like if you lost or gained five or 10 pounds, and so on. (This can also be useful for those looking to gain weight.) The dial’s BMI meter also shows if the gain or loss you selected is within a health body mass index (BMI) range.
So I looked at myself at my current weight and at my goal weight—it shows a side-by-side comparison—and it was pretty neat to witness the transformation. In fact, I plan to print out the photo and keep it on my fridge — could be a good way to motivate myself to eat healthier, which is my biggest hurdle.
DIY weight loss makeover
The technology to make the image possible is fascinating. The website is part of the www.makeovr.com family, a suite of tools that use technology to help you see what you would look like if you changed your hair or slowed down the aging process.
Truth be told, I don’t know how the technology works, but it does. The image definitely helped me get a better idea of what I should have in my mind when I envision myself thinner. And if that works, it’ll be wonderful.
Have you WeightMirrored yourself?
Just like the other Makeovr.com tools, WeightMirror has caught on — it’s now used on nearly 20 different websites and mobile applications, and has generated nearly 5 million photo makeovers, according to Nikkie Gatto, director of advanced projects for ModiFace, which powers the website.
She says there are many websites out there that offer services to help you envision weight loss. Some require users to pay to have a photo edited to reflect potential weight loss. She says ModiFace wanted to make the process free and simple. “As far as we know, this is currently the only such tool in the world to accomplish this task freely and fully automatically.”
