Create an online dating profile that gets noticed

Let’s face it — there’s a lot of competition out there when it comes to finding a date online. With so many dating sites and countless profiles, standing out from the crowd can be tough. That’s why the dating divas at SheKnows have put together an online dating guide to help you get noticed and meet your match on the web.

Have a great head shot

The first step in creating a get-noticed online dating profile is to have a great head shot. Consider this the first impression any prospective suitors will have of what kind of person you are. Here a few things to keep in mind when choosing the ultimate shot:

  1. Choose a pic where you’re smiling but not something that looks like a cheesy school photo. The key is to look naturally happy and relaxed.
  2. Make sure you look approachable and friendly.
  3. Make sure you’re looking directly at the camera.
  4. Get a blowout pre-photo and have your makeup done by a beauty-savvy friend or at a makeup counter. You don’t want to look overdone, but you do want to look polished and at your best.

Post multiple photos

Men respond much more to images than they do to words. As they scan through multiple online dating profiles, chances are they are stopping a lot more often at the ones with multiple photos. We suggest at least five to really have a chance at standing out. Opt for one more casual shot where you look relaxed and smiling, one where you are doing something that shows a hobby or interest (you on vacation, playing a sport, hiking, camping or doing something else active) and one slightly more formal shot, wearing a cocktail dress or something flattering and more put-together.

Use a full body photo

It’s imperative that you not only post a great head shot and multiple photos, but a full body shot as well. If you don’t, it may look like you have something to hide and as superficial as it sounds, guys may skip over your profile because of it. You don’t need to bare it all in a bikini, but do choose a photo that shows you at your best and at your most flattering angle.

Show personality

Aside from great photos that make you look friendly, approachable and fun to be with, spice up your profile with anything that helps guys get a better sense of who you are and what you’re like to hang out with. Think about what you like to do. What are your hobbies? Where have you traveled? What kind of movies and books do you like? What do you do with your friends? Think about it this way: If you were looking at someone’s online profile, what would catch your interest (aside from a pic showing amazing abs)? You’d likely want to know what a guys does aside from work — does he camp/ski/snowboard/surf/travel? These are the things that help shape personality.

Watch: How to look thinner in photographs

Contrary to popular belief, pictures do lie. So make sure they’re saying you’re skinnier than you really are!
