There may be nothing but love in Big Momma’s House, but Martin Lawrence and wife Shamicka are set to divorce — just as the comedian returns to television.
And another one bites the dust — comedian Martin Lawrence and his wife are set to divorce.
“Martin and Shamicka Lawrence have decided to divorce,” said a rep for the couple to People. “The couple has made the joint decision to part ways.”
Lawrence and Shamicka were wed in 2010 inside their Beverly Hills home. They have two children together.
“Out of love and respect for one another we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together,” they both said in a statement.
At first glance, the news may not be surprising for a Hollywood marriage — not too many make it past newlywed status and find themselves ending up like Katy Perry and Russell Brand.
However, according to E! News, this couple has been together for 15 years before tying the knot! What happened?
Though not many details have been released, Lawrence’s marriage to Shamicka was his second. He was previously married to Patricia, who is now married to NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith. Lawrence and Patricia also have a daughter together.
Lawrence recently shot a sitcom pilot for CBS, directed by Fred Savage and co-starring P.J. Byrne of Horrible Bosses. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor takes on the role of a widowed father of two teens who, after losing his construction job, opts to enroll at the police academy in an effort to become a cop at the ripe old age of 46. Looks like his onscreen character won’t be the only one turning a new leaf.
