Fitness and healthy living

Thanks to seven or more hours a day of practice, she and partner Val Chmerkovskiy are looking fabulous as they work toward winning it all.

But dancing isn’t the only thing keeping Monaco in all-star condition. The fitness enthusiast and longtime vegetarian tells us that eating healthy and being active are very important aspects of her life.

When she isn’t dancing, Monaco likes to try a variety of workouts.

“My workout regimen varies,” she tells SheKnows. “I do everything from the gym to yoga to cardio classes, hiking and swimming. I’m pretty active. I’d rather stay outdoors than be cooped up.”

The actress also enjoys gardening, something that comes in handy when preparing meals for friends.

“I grow my own herbs, spices, mints,” says Monaco. “I cook a lot, actually. I have zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, 14 different varietals of tomatoes. It’s amazing.”

But just because she is a vegetarian doesn’t mean she doesn’t have her guilty pleasures.

Sweet treats and staying positive

“I have a sweet tooth,” says Monaco. “Twix is probably my favorite [candy] or Reese’s. I actually got a bag of [Halloween candy] the other day and I lined up my favorites.”

With her current dancing schedule though, she can afford the candy calories!

“Dancing is such a good form of exercise, and you don’t feel like you’re exercising,” she says.

More than anything, though, staying positive is the key to good health, Monaco says.

“You just have to be happy,” she tells us. “Put a smile on your face — you’ll burn more calories if you smile. I’m having the best time right now.”
