A single girl’s guide to the holiday season

Being single over the holidays has a bad rap — a rap that we feel is undeserving. Single this season? So what! We’re sharing some fun ways to get festive solo or with friends so you don’t have to be concerned with your single status. Not now, not ever.

Book a last-minute getaway

While travel during the holidays can be expensive, you might be able to find a last-minute vacation package that will get you out of town and into the sun. Find some friends who are also itching to escape the cold and stress of the holiday season and see where the skies take you. Places like the Bahamas and Vegas often have four day/three night packages perfect for a quick vacation.

Volunteer your time

What better way to truly experience what the holidays are supposed to be about than by giving back to people who need it most? Gather some like-minded friends (or go it alone) and find a charitable cause where you can volunteer your time, for a day or longer, over the holidays. You’ll feel good knowing you’re helping out and maybe you’ll be inspired to do even more volunteering in the New Year.

Host a holiday party

Feeling festive but a bit lonely? Fill your space with everyone you love (and a lot of holiday cheer). Get decorating, plan a seasonal menu, create a signature cocktail and invite all your favorite people over for a dinner party complete with carols, cookies and ugly Christmas sweaters. Having your nearest and dearest around you helps you realize how lucky you are, boyfriend or not.

Get creative

The holidays are the perfect time to get crafty. Whether you want to go DIY with all your cards and gifts, or make all your own holiday decorations, let your creativity run wild. Better yet, host an afternoon crafting party for any friends who want to get in on the DIY fun.

Find a challenge

If you’re down on the fact that you’re single this season, remind yourself of how awesome you are by taking on (and then accomplishing) a challenge. Maybe you want to be able to get over a fear, learn something new or achieve a fitness goal — whatever it is, use the holidays to make it happen. You’ll boost your overall confidence and feel great about yourself.
