True stories: The most exotic Valentine’s Day I ever had was…

Every girl dreams of that special Valentine’s Day where her one true love completely sweeps her off her feet. Well for some women, dreams do come true. And trust us, we’ve got the stories to prove it!

Here, four lucky ladies dish on their most exotic and unforgettable Valentine’s Day ever.

Passport to Paris

“What could be more exotic than spending Valentine’s Day in the most romantic city in the world? It was my dream to visit Paris, and last winter my boyfriend made it come true. He thought of everything in advance, and presented me with an envelope containing our tickets early in the morning. In a few hours, we were on a plane to Paris. I have to admit, I was a little bit shy about giving him his handmade card and favorite cologne after that!”

Dinner with a prince

“My most exotic Valentine’s experience was when I went to Rome by myself in 2005 for a week long horseback riding trip in the hills overlooking the city. HBO was in the middle of filming their popular series Rome, and many of the cast and crew were staying in the same hotel I was. Also there, it was rumored, was a prince. Of what and where I didn’t know, and frankly I didn’t really care. I was more interested in meeting a handsome actor! On Valentine’s evening, I donned a black sequined gown and made my way to the hotel restaurant. ‘Do you mind if we seat you with someone?’ asked the maitre d’. I said that would be fine. The next thing I knew, I was being introduced to the handsome and gracious Prince of Afghanistan, who would be my dining partner that evening and who would later become a friend. Talk about exotic! Spending Valentine’s Day in Italy having dinner with a real-live prince is something out of the storybooks. And to think, it wouldn’t have happened if I’d not been alone.”

Fishing for love

“It may not be exotic per se, but four years ago this Valentine’s Day my now-husband planned an ice fishing date (my first) at a lake near Salt Lake City where I live. He told me he thought I had a bite, so I reeled up my line only to find a shiny engagement ring on the end! We have taken an ice fishing trip every Valentine’s Day since.”

Acapulco adventure

“My birthday is Feb. 12, and with Valentine’s Day being so close, I used to get really cool combined gifts. My favorite was right before I got married. My then boyfriend took me to Las Brisas in Acapulco for the weekend. It is one of the most romantic destinations in the world! There were private casitas with private pools sprinkled with rose petals and hibiscus flowers decorating the bed in the afternoon!”
