E! News host and hot mama Catt Sadler invites SheKnows into her kitchen to share her tips for getting in shape during awards season.
Everybody is trying to slim down this season, whether it’s for a red carpet or to achieve your New Year’s resolution. And no one knows how to do that better than someone who is on camera every day.
E! News host Catt Sadler invited us into her kitchen recently to share all of her healthy tips for looking great this year.
Q&A with Catt Sadler
SheKnows: So, Catt, does your diet get way more intense during awards season?
Catt Sadler: I would say probably yes. It has a little to do with the fact that it’s awards season, and it has a little to do with the fact that awards season comes right after the holidays. So I think we’re right in step with the rest of the country; [everyone] wants to shed a couple of pounds they gained during the holidays and start the year off right.
SK:I’m sure from working red carpets that you’ve learned a few quick-fix tips. What do you do the night before a big event to look great the next day?
CS: I’m on TV every day and it’s a beautiful gift, but I don’t do a lot of shock preparation, even in awards season. It’s just being mindful, day to day that saves me. But for a bikini photo shoot, I drink mint tea. We’re growing mint in the garden. It’s so good for you and it de-bloats you and it’s tasty.
Catt’s Kale Salad
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch of kale, cut into bite-sized pieces
- Dry roasted pine nuts (put them in a skillet on low for a few minutes, tossing regularly)
- 1 slice dried oven-baked pita, crumbled
- 1 tablespoon of fresh chopped mint leaves
- 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
- ½ cup tahini (or less; measure for desired taste)
- A pinch of sea salt
- A pinch of pepper
Directions:
Toss all ingredients in a bowl and serve immediately.
“This is simple but so incredibly tasty! The tahini packs the flavor — you’ll love it!”
SK: What do you eat on an average day?
CS: It’s pretty simple. I’ll have a bowl of cereal with skim milk, but it’s healthy, organic. On good days, I’ll plan ahead and I’ll have some blueberries, strawberries and some yogurt and granola. Lunch is generally always take-out, because I’m at E! I like to do salads for lunch. Kale salad is one of my favorite go-to lunches. Then dinner is grilling some kind of fish. I know there used to be a big thing — no pasta, not too many carbs, but I still think you can if you do pasta right. My foodie husband makes all of the sauces. So we’ll get the tomatoes that we’re growing [in the garden], and he’ll make homemade sauce for our pasta.
SK:You have two young sons, and kids can be picky eaters. What do you make for them?
CS: I’ve noticed over time that the more you just put it on the table, eventually they just will eat it. I think a lot of moms make the mistake of constantly catering to [their kids]. I have to say I’m really proud of my boys. They’re into octopus and squid and even seaweed snacks, I put it in their lunches.
SK: Well, no one can eat healthy all the time. What do you like to splurge on?
CS: You said foods, not drink—right? Because jalapeño margaritas are my favorite guilty pleasure and vice! As far as foods go, my biggest vices are definitely French fries. I also love Mexican food.
SK: Besides eating a healthy diet, what else do you do to stay looking great?
Catt: I do the Tracy Anderson Method. I have a dance background, so I have to incorporate music and dancing into whatever I do. When I started doing her method I felt like, alive again because it’s half cardio and half muscular-structure work, and it’s not a lot of weight. The videos have worked out great for me because I can do those before my kids are up for school, and I do it after they go to bed. So there’s really no excuse, you guys.
SK:Catt, you’re obviously on our list of best Hollywood bods, but from what you’ve seen so far this awards season, who scores that title in your book?
Catt: I think Jessica Alba has a banging body. She has a couple kids and she still has such a gorgeous body. She’s curvy, but still really lean and toned. She doesn’t look like an ultra-gym rat and she doesn’t look like bones. I think she has this perfect, feminine silhouette.
