The ‘handoff’ is the ultimate way to get out of a second date
I admit, I haven’t been “on the market” for a while now so this isn’t a trick I’ve used from my tool box anytime recent, if ever, but the rules are simple and it’s a classic dating move.
The “handoff” is primarily used when you go on a mediocre date, not great, not the worst ever. You have no reason to say no to a second date other than you’re just not feeling it. So, you set them up with a friend.
It’s the ultimate “it’s not you, it’s me” move, most likely born of obligation to settle our own personal guilt for rejecting someone for no good reason. It’s a make good, an “I’m sorry for not liking you more so let me make it up to you.”
Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce is tackling the age-old dating trick in a recent video. Some say it’s doing someone a favor; some say it’s just another way to say you’re better than someone. Despite the stigma, I’ll bet it really works out for some people. I’ll bet people have married their handoffs. That said, it can also make a really powerful weapon.

Just remember, if you go on a date with someone who is obviously terrible and set them up with your frenemy, well, that just makes you a jerk. Not so much to your frenemy, more so to the person you’re using as bait.
Handoff with kindess, folks. Play matchmaker, not match settler.
