Welcome to Decorating Diva, where we share fresh, fun ways to update your home and spice up your living space! New home decorating trends come with every new season. We’re sharing some of the top trends to try this fall and some product picks to match.
Interior designer Nicole Sassaman shares some of her picks for home decor trends to watch this fall.
Linen
Think about comfort in a more chic way this fall by using fabric that adds a dose of subtle elegance to your home. “Linens are warm, casual and comfortable and create a great spot to curl up on in an elegant way,” notes Sassaman. Create a sophisticated sleeping spot with this smooth and luxurious linen sheet set (potterybarn.com, $209 to $279). Or stay warm in style with this linen twill throw (crateandbarrel.com, $70).
Plums and blues
If you’re looking for a new hue to introduce for fall, look no further than plums and blues, says Sassaman. “Plums and blues are great for fall, as they are strong, rich colors and more unique than the usual reds and oranges,” she explains. Serve snacks or drinks on this square lacquered tray in a rich shade of plum (westelm.com, $29), or refresh a room by adding a few of these blue crochet-look cushions to a couch or loveseat (crateandbarrel.com, $30).
Herringbone
Pattern trends come and go, and this fall it’s all about herringbone, that timeless print that never seems to go out of style. “Herringbone is a great pattern for fall and is always a classic,” affirms Sassaman. We love these gold pillar candles covered with a shimmering herringbone pattern (potterybarn.com, $17 to $30). Add a more prominent does of the classic yet on-trend pattern to your home with a jute chenille herringbone rug (westelm.com, $49 to $599).
Tangerine
Another color to watch for this fall (yes, we know it’s already had its turn in the spotlight) is tangerine, Sassaman tells us. “Tangerine provides a fun splash of fall color to brighten up your space. Pillows or throws are a great way to do this with very little commitment.” Aside from pillows or throws, go even bolder by adding a vibrant orange chair to the kitchen (cb2.com, $149). We also love these three takes on tangerine-hued pillows, one in a lattice pattern, one leather and one in houndstooth (horchow.com, $100 to $175).
Displays of collectibles
This fall, it’s time to dust off your collection of shells, coins or other objects you always mean to display but don’t. Sassaman says displaying your stuff is hot this season. “I collect compasses and coins and always try to add to my stash when I travel. These can look great displayed in baskets, shells or glass cases,” she says. Show off some of what you collect in these delicate wire baskets (anthropologie.com, $58 for three) or on some of these colorful wall shelves (urbanoutfitters.com, $22 or two for $40).
