Rather than scouring one shopping aisle after the next in search of the perfect centerpiece to adorn your holiday table, consider creating one yourself. With a little creativity and a few seasonal items that can be easily found in craft stores or outside your home, you can make a simple, yet stunning centerpiece.
Here are some specific suggestions for centerpiece projects that are ideal for fall.
Wooden bowls filled with fruits and vegetables
If a glass bowl or hurricane generally adorns your tabletop, switch it out with a wooden bowl for a more rustic feel, suggests Celebrations.com expert Shawn Rabideau. He says, “Fill the bowl with fall elements such as gourds, eggplant, apples, pears and other fall fruits and veggies. These are perfect if you cook. You can decorate and use the decor for your fall menu!”
Pumpkins displayed in hurricanes
Melissa Riker, a DIY blogger at The Happier Homemaker, suggests buying small, faux pumpkins from dollar stores and then spray painting them gloss white and displaying them in clear hurricanes. “Multiple hurricanes lined down the center of the table would be dramatic, without a hefty price tag,” she notes.
Candleholders filled with acorns
Another idea Riker offers is to take glass candleholders and fill them with acorns and white candles. This is another centerpiece that can be quickly created, while costing very little. Riker explains that you can gather the acorns outside, buy them in bulk online or purchase them from your nearest craft store.
Twig-covered candle pillars
Riker also recommends gathering small twigs and then hot gluing them around plain, pillar candles to create a rustic, autumn look. “Use varying size pillars for visual interest and to create more drama,” she adds.
Roses paired with candles
Roses certainly may not be the first flower you would associate with fall, but they can be used to create a beautiful centerpiece that creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the room where it’s displayed. According to event and wedding planner Tammy Carmona, “Roses never go out of style and right now the romantic look is making a comeback.”
She recommends creating a centerpiece that consists of red roses and candles. “To create this look, you need a round oasis in a couple of different sizes with roses cut short. Each ball you create you make in one color, and then just place one next to the other. Throw some candles next to the piece, and you get a stunning table centerpiece.”
Hurricanes painted with silhouettes of branches and leaves
Jaime Restrepo of Dulce Detalle Designs LLC, suggests buying small and large hurricanes at dollar and craft stores and then painting them yourself. “You can easily print a leaf or tree branch silhouette design, roll it to fit inside the hurricane, then follow your picture as your guide to paint on the silhouette images. The silhouettes give a more modern feel to any design, or, if you prefer and have the talent, you can add more detail to your images,” she explains.
