Want to evoke the coziness of a rustic cabin retreat? Add animal skin. This is a great option for the design savvy to use in their current homes for winter style. You can place an animal skin over your existing floor textiles (it creates a wonderful layering effect) for enhanced visual warmth (Ikea, $199).

This is one of the main go-to winter textiles that everyone should consider for their abode. Flannel provides instant warmth and will truly keep you toasty during those blustery winter days. Add a flannel bedding set or throw you can place around your home (The Land of Nod, $69-$109).

There certainly is nothing wrong with transitioning cotton into the winter season — just make sure you up the texture. It’s no secret that thicker knits give us an extra layer of protection when the weather turns chilly, so be sure to add a cotton knit blanket or two around your interior (Target, $40-$61).

Another component of the wool family is cashmere, a luxe textile commonly present during the cooler months. Lightweight and super soft in feel, this textile, here in the form of a hot-water bottle cover, adds much-needed warmth without heavy or excessive layers (Restoration Hardware, $59).
