Zaria Forman

The realistic detail and dimension in Forman‘s pieces of art look like a photograph, but she isn’t a photographer — her art is actually drawings. She’s also a philanthropist who is trying to do more than just create art: She is trying to inspire people to save the earth’s most precious resources. In a recent interview with Artstar, she said, “My most recent drawings document Earth’s shifting landscape and the effects of progressive climate change… Perhaps if people can experience these sublime landscapes, they will be inspired to protect and preserve them.” Using nature as her inspiration and pastels as her medium, her pieces of art are nothing short of amazing. Prints of her work are available on Artstar for $100, while originals go for around $5,000 to $16,500.

Carol Roullard

At first glance, you might think Carol‘s art is a painting of a mountain scene or various other objects, but it is in fact a photograph of homegrown crystals under a microscope. Her pieces are unlike anything we’ve ever seen, and the colors and patterns are endless. In order to best showcase the crystalline structure, Carol prints her work on sheets of aluminum, although she also has plans to print on paper in the future. An original piece on aluminum sells for around $3,500, but if that’s not in the budget, she says the paper prints will sell for far less. Stop by her Facebook page to weigh in on your favorites — she is looking for her fans’ opinions to decide which photographs to print first.

Johwey Redington

Redington was born and raised in the Philippines and was an accomplished architect before turning to her passion to create art full time. We fell in love with the calming look and dimension in her encaustic art. She uses a wooden panel as her canvas and makes her own medium by blending melted beeswax with pigments. She uses electric skillets and griddles to keep her medium hot while she works. She paints layers of colors and even adds objects like tree bark or glass. She and her husband recently moved to Los Angeles so she could pursue her career in art. Her pieces range from around $500 to $5,000.

Alexis Marie Chute

Chute is an artistic jack of all trades, if you will. She is a visual artist, a photographer and a creative writer. Her various mediums combine to form a distinctive style that we loved at first sight. Chute creates from a deep love of vibrant color, distinctive texture and dramatic lighting. She is constantly looking for unusual compositions and unique and interesting subjects. The award-winning artist offers a little something for everyone, but we were partial to her paintings. Chute’s work can be purchased through the Art Gallery of Alberta, Method Art Gallery or on her website, and it retails for around $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the piece.

If you like clean lines, bright colors and perhaps something a little outside of the box, these artists are for you. Bright colors, unique mediums and a fun and vibrant style link these artists. Their work would look perfect in any home that is looking for a pop of color, a conversation piece or just something a little different.

JaH-HaHa

Other than the unique mediums — like pennies — one of the most unique things about this artist is that JaH-HaHa is actually two people. The duo is composed of well-known musician Jimi Davies and Jeff Alan Huntington, a fine art painter and professor. They share a love for music and a love for art, and we get the pleasure of experiencing the fusion that comes from their talents. Davies brings the humor and whimsy to Huntington’s more serious side, and the results are nothing short of amazing. They are represented by Porter Contemporary and have been collaborating since 2011. You can get your hands on their work for as little as $100 for a print or upwards of $15,000 for an original.

Cate Parr

Watercolor paintings are commonly of fields of flowers or natural landscapes, making the end result a little more traditional, but Cate Parr does things differently. Her watercolor art is edgy, with no flowers in sight. Parr is a fashion illustrator and has created editorial illustrations for publications like the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. Her current exhibition at the S&D Gallery in London includes a series of paintings of her most admired female icons, including Kate Moss and Judi Dench. Originals from this exhibition can be purchased through the gallery, but she also has several prints and originals available in her Etsy store for as little as $35.

David Walker

You might call it graffiti, but David Walker calls it art, and we can’t help but love it. This spray-paint artist creates vibrant portraits without the use of brushes or other tools. The results are a mixture of abstraction, photo realism and graffiti art. His work has been exhibited all over the world and is currently being exhibited in the U.K. at Mathgoth and Robert Fontaine Gallery. A set of artists proofs goes for around $670. The best part about Walker’s art may be watching him create his portraits and seeing his work come to life. You can see a live painting he recently did at Artcurial here.

Tim Okamura

Okamura, a School of Visual Arts alumnus, credits long and boring Canadian winters for creating his passion for art. It all started with paper and finger paints, and the rest is history. He’s half Japanese and half British, but his subject matter of choice is African-American women. He also has a love for hip-hop culture and all that comes along with it. “I was into not only the music, but other aspects of the culture — graffiti — and just really got interested in American urban experiences,” he said in an interview with NPR. He hopes to create an emotional connection through his art, and it’s hard not to feel that when you look into the eyes of the women he paints. He already has a celebrity following, and you can see his work in the homes of John Mellencamp and Uma Thurman, to name a couple.

Judith Williams

Williams was originally inspired by her mother’s drawings. Her work includes a lot of editing, reworking and many layers of paint until she captures the images exactly as she wants them to be. Gallery owner Judith Vogelsonger said, “She has a distinctive style that translates to all of her pieces… Her work is very textured and it draws people in, whether they are admiring one of her dancers, a landscape or a still life. People love her use of texture.” Williams’ work has an almost mysterious quality to it. Her original pieces are for sale at the JWV Artists Gallery ranging from $250 to $2,500.

Irene Salley

We couldn’t help but think of Monet when we laid eyes on Salley’s colorful paintings. Born on the small tropical island of Guadeloupe, Salley discovered her love of art in Paris, of course, but didn’t find her love for painting until she moved to Florida. Her paintings are filled with emotion and combine both reality and what you might imagine reality could be. Gallery owner Judith Vogelsonger said, “Irene’s bold use of colors, thick application of paint and bold brush strokes make her work unique. That’s what attracts people to her work.” If you’re a lover of the impressionist style, you can get your hands on Salley’s original pieces from $350 to $1,750, depending on the size of the canvas. Her art is on display at the JWV Artists Gallery in North Carolina.

Mark Lang

We’re including Lang in the classics category, although his work is anything but traditional — it is often described as voyeuristic. Some of his paintings may seem familiar, and that is because he takes his inspiration from historical works of art. An alumnus of the School of Visual Arts, Lang is known as a “master of hyper-reality” for his realistic paintings of famous paintings. There is typically a bit of humor or even irony mixed into his work, making it not just a piece of art, but more of a story to be told. His work is available at Galerie de Bellefeuille and Winsor Gallery, both in Canada.
