Regular wall art just isn’t cutting it anymore. These days it’s all about 3-D art pieces making bold statements. From fine artists to crafty DIYers, check out some of these 3-D wall art pieces that are right on trend.
Super egg box
Japanese artist Yuki Matsueda is known for taking components of his art and projecting them to give them a sense of movement. He encompasses the piece in acrylic to keep it intact.
Medicine Mom
Medications and superglue are the mediums for Anders Krisar’s Medicine Mom. Bonus points if you try this at home, but I’d probably leave it to the pro.
Afterglow
Jen Stark created this 3-D wall art out of hand-cut paper and a wood backing. The neon psychedelic colors bring two words to mind: “Groovy, baby.”
Colorful 3-D geometric art
If fine art isn’t in your budget, try your hand at this easy DIY 3-D wall art project by Brittni Mehlhoff for Curbly (get the full tutorial here). The piece was originally inspired by an Anthropologie installation and costs less than $50 to make.
Colorful string art
DIY string art is on the rise, and I’m convinced part of its popularity is due to this fabulous art project by Dina from Honey & Fitz. There are tons of string art projects you can find on Pinterest, but this one with the rainbow colors is probably one of the most pinned out there.
Natural wood
Minimalists will appreciate the subtle qualities of this wall sculpture made of natural wood. To create the piece, the artist made 100 cuts and sanded each block. The blocks were arranged in a way that makes the simplicity of the piece stand out.
Glamorous
For a more subtle take on the 3-D wall art trend, check out this sophisticated piece crafted by Allison from Two Thirty-Five Designs. This is a look we can get on board with. It’s art that’s totally accessible and still sophisticated.
Party on
Party backdrops are becoming increasingly popular for birthdays and weddings. This DIY geometric paper backdrop would make for some killer snapshots and can be repurposed as home decor when the event ends.
Here, pretty bird
Dimensional art is particularly on the rise in nursery decor and little kids’ rooms. If cutting origami-like animals isn’t your bag, then order some off of Etsy. Simply Chic Lily specializes in handmade 3-D decor perfect for kids’ spaces.
Digging these dowels
Yet another wall art project inspired by an Anthropologie window display, this 3-D art piece was constructed out of three-foot wooden dowels in varying widths of one inch, one and one-half inches, and two inches.
