Looking to add a handmade touch to your holiday? Or just simply looking to decorate that tree with nonbreakable, kid-proof ornaments? Here are three different styles of simple felt ornaments that will add both color and character to your tree this year!
Supplies:
- Felt in multiple colors
- Scissors
- Thread
- String
- Sewing machine
Mini tree instructions:
Step 1:
Using multiple colors, cut out strips of felt in varying sizes. Layer them in order of smallest to largest to create a tree. Add a small piece at the bottom for the trunk.
Step 2:
Using your sewing machine, feed the pieces through in a straight line to attach them all together.
Step 3:
Snip off any excess thread at the bottom, use the extra thread at the top to tie a loop and knot for hanging, and then this one is done.
Pompom instructions:
Step 1:
Start by cutting multiple thin strips of felt in the same size. Use more for a more full pompom and less for a more sparse one.
Step 2:
Gather all the strips together, and mix them up. Tie them all together in the center with a piece of string.
Step 3:
Tie the string around the bundle of felt strips, and tie a knot in the string at the top to create a loop for hanging. To finish up, trim off the long ends of the felt pompom to round it out.
Two-tone spiral instructions:
Step 1:
Start by cutting a square out of 2 pieces of felt.
Step 2:
With the 2 squares of felt matched up on top of each other, fold diagonally, and cut lines parallel to the short ends of the triangle without reaching the top point. Cut 3 rows (as seen above).
Step 3:
Leaving the center diamond in place, pull the next 2 triangular cuts opposite the other cuts, and sew together at the points.
Step 4:
Leaving the second row pink side out (as originally cut), sew those points together. Pull the last row around (yellow side up) in the same direction you attached the first row, and sew those points together.
Step 5:
To finish up, cut a small hole at the top of the ornament, and slide a piece of string through it to tie a loop for hanging.
