These days we don’t have to worry about just our own waistlines expanding but we have to worry about our pets waistline. Overweight dogs have a shorter life span and suffer more health issues than one in a healthy weight range. So why not treat your beloved pooch to a trip to some of Australia’s dog friendly parks? Most dog friendly parks provide enclosed fenced area, water, bins to dispose of waste, shaded areas and seating.

Hawthorne Canal Reserve, Leichhardt, New South Wales

This spot has it all not only is it a leash-free park for dogs but situated inside the reserve is a dog friendly café, Cafe Bones which offers an array of snacks for dogs and puppies including pupaccino’s, bones and liver or lamb treats, if that’s not your cup of tea there is plenty on the menu for us two legged creatures.

Sunshine Beach, Noosa, Queensland

The perfect spot for lovers of the water, visitors can fish, boat, surf or just enjoy the water. Dogs are allowed on the beach from Noosa National Park to Seaview Terrace.

Albert Park, Port Phillip, Victoria

Albert Park is a parkland spot that includes a lake and a variety of walking and cycling trails and is located just 3 kilometres from Melbourne City. Dogs are welcome to walk around the lake on their leash or can run freely in the designated off-leash areas.

South Beach, Fremantle, West Australia

The beach is surrounded by a grassed area which allows dog’s moderate exercise before they even reach the location just make sure they don’t wear themselves out before they reach the sand.

Otto Park, St Peters, South Australia

A dedicated off-leash park for dogs with no time limits, so you can take your canine friend down to run free 24 hours a day seven days a week. Also has an area with play equipment for children.

Sirius Cove – Mosman, New South Wales

A beautiful stretch of sand, BBQ facilities and a playground for children makes it an ideal spot with something for the whole family. Dogs are allowed on the beach all day Monday-Friday and from 4pm-9am weekends and public holidays.

Elrundie Avenue, Marlow Lagoon, Northern Territory

This dog park was developed by Palmerston City Council with Pedigree and other sponsors for use by dogs with their owners. Contains 8 obstacles for your dog to try out and is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Pet Park, Golden Grove, South Australia

The name says it all, lots of room for dogs to run around or if that isn’t what you’re after also provides various obstacles in a circuit which will entertain puppies through the more active dogs.

Scarborough Dog Beach, Scarborough, West Australia

The beach length runs approximately 1.5 kilometres making it an ideal location for sprinting or games such as fetch. This park can get a little windy but still an enjoyable location for your pouch.

Observatory Hill Park, Sydney, New South Wales

A very popular location as it provides the best views of Sydney Harbour and surrounding areas. As per the parks name it contains the heritage listed Sydney Observatory. The park is an off-leash area at all times with lots of seated areas so you can enjoy the view.
