Celebrity Décor: Laila Ali’s inspiring nursery

by

Laila Ali recently welcomed a little bundle of joy into her home — her first daughter, Sydney J. Conway. The former boxer and Dancing with the Stars participant created a beautiful, inspirational space for her newest addition. SheKnows recently chatted with the celebrity nursery designers behind the gorgeous room to find out what inspired the details of the classic and whimsical space.

A fun project

Naomi Alon and Gerri Panebianco, the founders and partners behind Little Crown Interiors — one of Hollywood’s go-to nursery design firms — suspected that Ali’s nursery project would be different.

“Her reputation as an absolutely wonderful human being precedes her, and her role as a pioneering female athlete is so inspirational. It was no surprise that she met and then exceeded all of our expectations, and this quickly became one of the most fun projects we’ve ever had the pleasure to work on.”

Fun indeed. We’ve covered celebrity nurseries before, but we loved hearing how touched the designers were by the project and their client.

A fun spin on traditional nursery décor, the space incorporates design elements infused with personal meaning for Ali. Here are highlights from the space for you to draw inspiration from for your own little one’s haven.

Beyond picture frames

The designers helped Ali create a one-of-a-kind stretched canvas (a safer option than framed art) from a portrait of the infant Laila with her father Muhammad Ali. “We all thought it would be a very special and emotional tribute to the family’s history to have the picture right over the crib where Sydney sleeps,” explained the design duo. (The designers used Art.com to transform the portrait.)

A place of hope

The designers were also touched that Laila chose a “Hope” crib for Sydney: “It’s a true testament to the many ways in which women in all walks of life can be inspired by Laila.” We’d have to agree. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the crib, designed by Little Crown Interiors and Newport Cottages, goes to support breast cancer research.

To commemorate each donation and serve as a reminder of its purpose, each crib will come with a custom plaque for the owners to inscribe a sentiment of their choosing – on Sydney’s crib the inscription reads “Unconditionally Loved and Eternally Blessed.”

Decorating details

Other details in the room include artwork of angels and cherubs (also provided by Art.com). “Laila specifically asked us for something to represent angels watching over her little sweetheart,” explained the designers.

The custom glider from SPI Baby and pink changing table from Newport Cottages cap off the nursery furnishings. The colorful nursery bedding is from Carousel Designs and the custom-looking wall decals are by Dali Decals.
