Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson opted for a very specific design style in their brand new nursery for Maxwell Drew. Here’s how to follow suit yourself!
Celebrity moms don’t need to design their new nurseries themselves — they can simply hire somebody for that.
New parents Jessica Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson asked Rachel Ashwell of Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture to design a free-spirited nursery for their daughter, Maxwell Drew. Ashwell was given a very specific description a few months ago.
“Jessica is very pretty and feminine, but she didn’t want this to be over-the-top frilly,” Ashwell told People. “The words she used were ‘gypsy’ and ‘bohemian,’ so we brought in lavenders and mauves with a bit of pink and aqua.”

With this inspiration in mind, Ashwell opted for vintage butterfly wallpaper that “definitely set the tone.” Luxe furniture from her boutiques was mixed with vintage finds from flea markets that were converted into custom shelving units. Want to make your own changing table? Follow Ashwell’s example by simply screwing a changing table top to a dresser!
And it looks like the nursery was just the first step, since the new parents have asked Ashwell to decorate the rest of their home as well — talk about an awesome first audition!
She’s not only excited about her new design gig, but she swears that Simpson and Johnson are a pleasure to work with.

“They were probably the most un-neurotic people I’ve ever known,” said Ashwell. “Jessica wanted [the nursery] be cozy and cute, and she was very respectful of Eric, asking, ‘Do you like this?’ And he was nicely opinionated.”
“I found being around them very inspiring to think, ‘Wow, [this is] a real collaborative vision,'” noted Ashwell. “I even wrote them a little note saying, ‘It’s been such a privilege to be part of making your home for you, because I know it’s going to be a house of substance.'”
