Amy at Sweet Wall Icing began creating wall decals when her young children got old enough to give her time to devote to creative endeavors. Her eye chart wall decal ($27) gives an eye-catching touch to any surface. “My designs come from vintage graphics, pictures or items that I’ve found,” says Amy. “My hope is that customers enjoy my kitschy, quirky decals as much as I enjoy making them!”

David at Sasquatch’s Creations stumbled into selling his crafts online after creating a repurposed lamp for his sister. “I decided to give it a whirl,” says David. “I am so glad that I did. It has been fun and rewarding, and the community on Etsy is so friendly.” His recycled lightbulb vases ($32) hang on a rustic chain and lend charm to any wall or window.

Eric at Knob Creek Metal Arts draws inspiration from his rural Kentucky surroundings and requests for custom orders. “We have dealt with industrial metal products for more than 15 years, and when our business slowed during the recession we decided to go in a more creative direction.” Metal art bookends ($43) give a cheeky nod to nerds who love words.

Anja at Asymmetree Design marries digital design with natural materials. “Designs and patterns are created through the use of parametric design,” says Anja. “By generating computer simulations of various natural processes, different shapes evolve, with an infinite number of variations.” Birch wood and precision cutting form the intriguing pattern of the giraffe print clock ($80).

Ashley at Rizzle and Rugee began creating art to decorate her kids’ rooms. “My love of the beach led to the creation of many nautical prints. Meredith at Saddle Shoe Signs drew inspiration from Pinterest and learned how to create handmade lights with help from her woodworker father. “A simple DIY project for my own home turned into an idea, then a product and a business!” says Meredith.
