People that love to garden sometimes have a hard time deciding when it’s time to call in the reinforcements. After all you like doing yard work right? Well here’s how to decide when it’s time to hire a gardener.

Let’s face it. You’re busy person. Between working and taking care of your family, you probably have just a small amount of time each week to tend to your garden. You might love gardening, getting your hands dirty and enjoying the fresh air, but does that mean you have to enjoy ALL of the pesky yard chores involved with keeping the yard looking great? Nope.

I’m a gardener at heart, but I recently had my “come to Jesus” moment when I realized I was spending 3+ hours a week on lawn maintenance only in our new place. Not planting pretty scented flowers, harvesting veggies, or even watering plants, but simply mowing the lawn, edging, and pulling weeds. Our little electric mower was perfect for the small patch of grass we had at our old place, but couldn’t keep pace with the new space.

I kept telling myself to tough it out, after all I didn’t mind the work so hiring someone to do it made no sense. Problem was, I was spending so much of my free time on simple lawn care that I didn’t have any time left to plant a vegetable garden or put in pretty spring flowers — the things I love about gardening. Then I decided. It was time to call in the pros. Ok, so pro might be a stretch since I simply hired a boy down the street to mow the lawn each week, but boy oh boy, does it feel good. I’m already planning all the things to plant for summer and can taste the fresh homegrown veggies! Best decision ever.

So, how do you know it’s time to hire some help?

Oh, and that backyard that used to take me over an hour to mow? The neighborhood kid took care of it in 20 minutes.
