Producer and triple threat Lance Bass and artist Michael Turchin fell in love with their Los Angeles house, with its open layout and expansive views, two years ago after an exhaustive search. “We actually were considering the one across the street!” Bass says. The couple has plans to add a second floor and library someday.
But today they’re celebrating their first wedding anniversary by giving us a sneak peek at their newly remodeled and decorated home (with a little help from HomeGoods).
A mix of modern and traditional
Turchin says he loves mixing classic with modern design and neutral colors with punches of bright color.
A foyer that packs a punch
These lamps welcome guests with DRAMA! right when they walk through the door.
Living room built with love
This big glass coffee table was the first piece Bass and Turchin bought together.
Tablescapes make a big difference
Turchin says getting the coffee-table and bookshelf arrangements just so are “crucial” to a well-designed room.
Soft textures and neutral colors
Check out how the soft faux fur throw and neutral colors on this chair contrast with the chair in the next slide.
Fringe, leather and bold color
The bright color of the chair and spiky texture of the fringe pillow keep the living room from looking too matchy.
Original art enlivens a room
“As a pop artist,” Turchin says, “I really utilize art to make a room come to life.”
Objects with special meaning
This brass impala reminds Turchin and Bass of the impalas they saw on their African safari together.
Sparkling crystal adds energy
Psst, that light-catching crystal vase was a wedding gift from Kris Jenner.
An expansive space for friends
Bass and Turchin chose an open kitchen layout for entertaining. “We love hosting game nights here.”
Rooms that bring people together
“Our friends can be playing in the living room, and we can still be involved in the action, even if we’re in the kitchen.”
Kitchen as fantasy cooking show
“Cooking is one of my all-time passions,” Bass says. He designed the kitchen to look like the set of a cooking show.
Making the most of natural light
Don’t you love how the shiny surfaces of the mirrored tray, barware and statue reflect the light from the window?
This towel
Check out the adorable towel below the gorgeous, gleaming copper teakettle.
Keep the bathroom classy
“We always keep this guest bathroom looking presentable, with faux florals and sleek accessories,” Turchin says.
Fun decals wake up white walls
Turchin found this mad bull decal at HomeGoods. I think the upside-down placement is kind of brilliant.
Flora meets fauna
Another faux plant makes the white tile feel even fresher and contrasts with that exotic animal situation.
A little whimsy goes a long way
Never underestimate the value of humor in decorating, says this MTV Moon Man.
Consistent style strategy throughout
A bedroom seating area continues the overall aesthetic, with pops of color over neutrals and light-reflecting surfaces.
Two throws are better than one
A simple but effective touch: two throws, one bright and one neutral, with slightly different textures.
Pet-friendly decor
Bass says, “Our dog Dingo loves this rug — he was my first rescue dog here in L.A.”
