DIY lampshade decorations

Rather than buying a new lamp altogether, you can simply decorate your lampshade yourself for a new look. You don’t need to spend too much money on this and you definitely don’t need to spend too much doing it. Here are some DIY lampshade ideas for your home.

Ribbons and bows

Materials:

  • satin ribbon
  • thread
  • needle
  • glue gun

Directions:

Depending on the color of your lampshade and the color of the decorations in the room, pick a matching satin ribbon and create a bow. With a similar color thread, sew the bow together so it doesn’t come undone easily. After the bow is ready, glue it using the glue gun to the lampshade. Depending on its size, you can have one big one to the side, or multiple small ones all around the bottom. You can also substitute the satin ribbon for any leftover cloth from the curtains or the pillows if you have any.

Cloth cover-up

Materials:

  • cloth
  • glue gun

Directions:

This is very easy to do and its effect can go a long way! If you want to completely change the look of your lamp without buying a new one, buy a new cloth and cover your lampshade with it. Measure your lampshade and cutout/buy a piece of cloth accordingly and glue it all around the top and bottom circumferences. Whether you want a new color, or a bolder look, this is a very easy total makeover for your lampshade.

Girl/boy lamp

Materials:

  • yarn
  • 2 buttons
  • glue gun

Directions:

This can be fun and cheerful for children’s rooms. Basically, you want to think of one side of your lampshade as a face. You can even have it resemble your child! Cut out some yarn (any color of preference: red, black, brown, orange, yellow) and start gluing it with your glue gun in the shape of hair and you can control the length. It is easiest to have horizontal hair for boys and two pigtails and bangs for girls. Glue both buttons as eyes in the center and use a neutral, pink or red yarn to glue on smiling lips. And voila! Your lampshade is ready.
