Creating a study/work space at home

It is hard to fight the urge of wanting to do work in bed. You want to sit in your pajamas and lie down with your laptop on your lap. But studying or working from your bed is not very productive. And most importantly, it is not good for your back. So, here are some tips on how to create a study/work space at home.

Hot Spots

Basement – If you live in a house, the basement is always a great place to start. You don’t need a fully finished or furnished basement and you can still create a study/work space even if you have a rented-out separate basement. All you need is that small area downstairs, big enough for you to put a small desk and a chair. The basement is isolated from the rest of the house, which will make it easier for you to concentrate.

Den – Dens are also perfect for a study space and you don’t need to turn it into a full-out office. You can still have books in there or musical instruments. Just use one wall or corner for a table and a chair, and make that your study/work space. Having a separate room with a door will definitely work to your favor and help you be more productive.

Lost space – Sometimes, depending on the architectural design of the place, we often find ourselves left with lost, empty spaces that we try to fill with a piano or a big plant. Instead, use that spot for a chair and a table and turn it into a trendy study space. It doesn’t need to be extra spacious, but it can work great for occasional take-home work.

What you need

In order for you to create a study space, you need a desk/table and a chair. Make sure to pick a comfortable chair and most importantly, make sure that the height of the desk and the chair work well so you don’t have to hunch over for hours. You can find bargains at garage sales sometimes, and now is the season! Also, Ikea , Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire have affordable pieces that you can assemble yourself and they won’t take up too much room.
