12 Ways to celebrate Father’s Day

When it comes to Father’s Day, giving Dad the gift of your time is the best way to celebrate. Show him how much he means to you by planning to spend Father’s Day sharing an activity he loves.

1. Game day

If your dad loves to play sports – or a particular sport – plan to join in and share his passion on Father’s Day. Book a tee time or a court, take him to the bowling lanes or just play some one-on-one basketball together in the driveway. He’s guaranteed to love every minute of it!

2. Foodie dad

Whether your father is a food connoisseur or just loves to eat, planning a Father’s Day brunch or dinner out at his favorite restaurant will go over very well. Be sure to call ahead of time to make a reservation, as it’s certain to be busy. Alternatively, invite him over and cook his favourite meal.

3. Music lover

Whether Dad loves to kick up his heels to country music, rock out or take in the symphony, he will appreciate an outing to see some live music. Seeing him in his element will bring you closer and make for an experience you won’t soon forget.

4. Outdoorsman

The “outdoorsman” will be thrilled if you suggest quality time spent hiking, biking or canoeing. Find some great trails or a scenic river and enjoy the fresh air together!

5. Head out on the highway

If your dad is the type that just loves to get in the car and go, consider taking a drive in the country together, or maybe travel back through his old neighborhood and let him reminisce and share stories. You’ll both love it!

6. Picker dad

Plan a day of hitting up yard sales, flea markets and outdoor farmers markets with the dad who just can’t resist a bargain. Stop for lunch to make it a perfect Father’s Day outing.

7. Artsy fartsy father

If your father appreciates the arts, it’s a no-brainer to visit an art gallery or museum together. Spend the day strolling and chatting.

8. He’s a homebody

For the father that prefers to be on his own turf, plan to spend Father’s Day indulging in one of his favorite “around the house” activities, whether it be playing a game or two of cards or gardening.

9. Movie fanatic

If your dad is movie mad, take him out to see a flick of his choice and spring for the tickets and popcorn. Alternatively, bring a DVD over to his place and set-up in front of the big screen with munchies of your own!

10. Fan father

Many dads participate in sports as enthusiastic spectators. Whether he has a favorite team or loves car racing or tennis, try to net tickets to go take in an event together. If that’s not possible, set up camp in front of the television set and cheer along with him!

11. Dad’s day out

Whether it’s just the two of you, or the whole family is celebrating Father’s Day together, a trip to the zoo or amusement park will not disappoint an active dad who likes to get out and have fun.

12. Long distance dad

If your dad is far away, connecting face-to-face for a video chat or having a long talk over the phone, will make for a wonderful Father’s Day. It’s also a neat idea to surprise Dad with a pre-arranged video chat session with his loved ones or relatives who live far away.
