DIY felt flowers

Fresh flowers are beautiful but do not last very long. Why not make a fun, colorful felt flower to use as a pin or to put in your hair? They are not only beautiful to look at, but they are so fun to make. Create your own custom flower for any season with just a few supplies.

What you’ll need:

  • Felt, in different colors
  • Felt flower template (you can find one here, or draw your own)
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Colorful bobby pins/plastic threading needle for stem

Poppy flower:

1

Cut

First cut a long, thin strip of a colored piece of felt and roll it into a coiled shape.

2

Glue

Use your hot glue gun to glue and secure the center. Make sure your child uses caution, as glue guns are very hot!

3

Cut and glue

Cut out petal and leaf shapes in various colors. Once you cut them out, glue the petal to the back of the coil and glue the leaf to the back of the petal.

4

Compile parts

Last but not least, glue the bobby pin or threading needle to the back of the flower.

Daisy flower:

1

Cut

First cut a long, thin strip of a colored piece of felt and roll it into a coiled shape. Refer to step 1 of the poppy flower image above.

2

Draw

Cut four sets of the daisy flower shape in various colors. You can use a template of your choosing, or be extra creative and draw one yourself.

3

Pinch

Pinch the petal ends together and use your glue gun to secure them to the bobby pin/threading needle.

4

Enjoy!

Finally, glue on the center coil and enjoy!
