Covering your textbooks is practically a requirement for the first day of school. This year, protect those books with something more fun than an old paper bag!
Duct tape book cover
You won’t have to worry about your book cover falling off part way through the school year if you make it out of practically indestructible duct tape!
What you’ll need:
- brown paper grocery bag
- scissors
- decorative duct tape
- book
What you’ll do:
- Cut off the bottom of the paper grocery bag, then cut along one side of the bag to open it up so that it lays flat.
- Follow the steps outlined in the map book cover project to make a basic book cover out of the grocery bag.
- Cover the paper bag book cover with duct tape. Start on the inside of the front cover, and wrap the duct tape all the way around the cover. Cut off the end and wrap it around the inside of the back cover.
- Keep adding rows of duct tape until the entire book is covered.
Map book cover
Recycle some old road maps into an interesting book cover!
What you’ll need:
- large road map
- scissors
- book
What you’ll do:
- Unfold the map and lay it out flat on the table. Smooth out any creases or wrinkles in the paper.
- Open the book and lay it on top of the map.
- Trim the map down so that it is 2-inches larger than the book on all sides.
- Fold up the paper at the bottom of the book and make a crease . Repeat for the top of the book.
- Remove the book from the paper and fold the map where you made the creases.
- Place the book back on the paper and wrap the paper around the book, lining up the ends of the paper.
- Fold the overlapping paper around the front and back covers and make a crease.
- Slide the front cover of the book into the slot created by the folded paper, then repeat for the back cover.
