Emerging trends at Fashion Week

The colors showing up in New York so far, are firmly neutrals: blacks, grays, dark browns, and white.

This was true on the highly praised Yeohlee runway where there were lots of high-waisted wool trousers with white shirts and black dresses. Yigal Azrouel’s show, which also received high marks, had a muted palette and managed to pull off a disheveled sophistication by mixing textiles and lengths. His soft, slightly rumpled clothes are just the sort of thing you might expect a hip successful New Yorker to wear.
Max Azria showed plenty of brown and this swingy jersey shifts was one of the highlights of his BCBG show. Known lately for his cartoon tropical colors, I look forward to his show, which if it doesn’t wow, is bound to surprise. Britney admires Baby Phat collection Another highlight during yesterday’s kick-off festivities, was the appearance of Britney Spears at the Baby Phat show. Last, but not least, it was also the New York debut of Eric Hart’s Morphine Generation. I’m a huge fan of this Los Angeles designer and was happy to see he was well-received for his distinct brand of military glam, skinny pants, and tailored jackets. His tailoring, which I felt was sorely underappreciated a few months ago during Los Angeles Fashion Week, is very precise and well done.
