A dog’s natural instinct is to hunt for food and this includes “hunting” on your counter and in your garbage. Referred to as “counter surfing,” this behavior means your dog is in search of his next meal and rewarding himself when he finds it. Teach him to stop by keeping things out of reach and congratulating him when he resists the urge.
