Miniature woodland
Chicago florist Virginia Wolff was inspired to create this woodland-themed centerpiece from her childhood memories of taking walks in the woods. She used to gather clumps of moss, tiny woodland plants and wildflowers, which she reinterpreted in this piece. Small snippets of branches and orchids give the centerpiece a variety of texture and color. Wolff couldn’t resist incorporating a few artichokes, her favorite vegetable, in the piece.

White and bright for winter
Decorating with natural elements doesn’t have to mean you’re restricted to warm colors in brown and orange hues. This winter brunch spread uses muted tones of white, gray and yellow for a look that’s light and bright. Easy DIY projects like painted pinecone placeholders and paper-wrapped vases help create the look you want for less.

Playing with pinecones
Pauline Molinari, the crafty maven behind Club ChicaCircle, made this DIY pinecone topiary centerpiece using pinecones, a foam ball, a stick, spray paint, brown caulk and a wine bottle. She says the trick to working with pinecones is to “shake them out and make sure they are bug free.” Molinari has also known people to bake pinecones in a low-heat oven to make sure there aren’t any critters left. Her secret for the topiary was dark brown caulk. “It was the perfect color that matched the pinecones when attaching to the Styrofoam ball.”

Getting twiggy with it
Give a simple $5 flower bouquet a chic upgrade with this DIY twig vase by Mariah Leeson of Giggles Galore. “Fall is the perfect time of the year to celebrate and be thankful for the wonders of nature that surround us,” Leeson says. “I love having fresh flowers in my home and wanted a way to display them throughout the season with a more rustic and natural touch. My son collects sticks everywhere we go, so I decided to put them to use and create something we could enjoy during the fall season.”

Natural and glam
Going au naturel doesn’t necessarily have to mean rustic. Cassie from Hi Sugarplum! gave her fall table a shot of glam by pairing natural elements with gold accents. Her centerpiece spread of pinecones, grapevine pumpkins and flowers got a stylish boost when paired with a gold polka-dot burlap runner and gold dinnerware.
