Hate your pores? Here are three tricks you can use to reduce the size of your pores and have a happier face.
be happier in your skin
No one likes pores — especially large ones that make you feel like your face has some of the same qualities as the moon.
The skin’s pores, however, do have a purpose. A pore is the opening of the skin where a hair follicle is located. Sometimes, pores get blocked with materials like dirt, makeup and dead skin — resulting in unsightly blemishes.
While you can’t get rid of your pores, you can minimize the size of them. Here are three tricks to getting smaller-looking pores.
Q&A
We tried it!
We got to try out the New! Clairisonic Deep Pore Detoxifying Solution with their Mia 2 cleansing device and here’s what we thought of the results:
What difference did you notice in the texture of your skin?
My skin has definitely gotten smoother. I especially have noticed a change in the texture of my skin along my cheekbones, which now feel softer after using the product for just a couple weeks.
Did you notice a more even appearance of your skin tone?
I didn’t notice a more even appearance at first, but after seeing a photo of myself taken just the other day, I can definitely see a more overall consistent skin tone.
If you noticed a more even skin tone, were you more comfortable wearing less makeup?
I just now noticed the change in skin tone, but I would be more apt to wear less makeup, especially in the cheek areas if my skin tone continues to improve.
Was there a visible reduction in your pore size?
Yes – especially around my nose and lower forehead, which are my problem areas.
Did you feel like your normally oily or dry skin was more controlled?
I have a lot of problems with oily skin, and this is where I’ve noticed the biggest difference. While I still have issues with oily skin when there is hot weather, inside during the day, my skin is much less oily. This has been the greatest improvement, and the one I am most happy about.
Wash that skin
If you use makeup, wash it off each night with a gentle cleanser. Regularly washing your face also reduces the amount of oil that rests on the skin, and oily-looking skin can make the pores appear larger.
Be careful not to overwash, though. It can dry out your skin, and just washing once in the morning and once at night will leave pores feeling clean — and looking smaller.
Acne, including blackheads, may also enlarge pores if not taken care of. Acne clogs the pores, causing them to expand in size. Don’t be tempted to squeeze or pop zits — that can only make pores larger and even scar your skin.
If you have a serious acne problem, consult a dermatologist about how to best treat your skin to avoid scarring and other permanent damage.
Protect yourself
Too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer, but it can also thicken the outer layer of skin, causing rims of skin cells to form around the pores. This makes your pores appear larger as well.
The sun also damages the skin’s collagen and elasticity. When the skin on your face loses elasticity, pores will enlarge. So use sunscreen to protect yourself from harmful ultraviolet rays, and if you wear foundation, use a brand that has built-in sunscreen.
