It seems as though liquid foundation has been around forever. Maybe it’s because it really has withstood the test of time. Liquid foundations can be applied with a makeup sponge and easily blend into your skin.

Whipped foundation
Whipped or mousse foundations provide the perfect combination between liquid and cream foundations. Maybelline’s Dream Smooth Mousse (selling for $10) goes on smoothly and won’t weigh you down. Not all whipped foundations are so light, so steer clear of foundations that are too dry.
Cream foundations
Cream foundations provide better coverage than liquid foundations do because of their thicker formula. They are ideal for women with dry skin, and should be avoided if your skin is more oily.

Tinted moisturizer
Okay, you got us– tinted moisturizer doesn’t really count as foundation. But it is certainly in the same family. It’s perfect for those who practice a simple beauty routine.
Tinted moisturizer covers up any unwanted spots or redness while keeping your skin hydrated. And it all comes in one compact tube. We prefer Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer (which can be found at Sephora for $42).
Mineral powder foundation
Mineral powder foundation has really sky-rocketed in popularity– and for a good reason. Mineral foundation is easy to use (and very forgiving). Bare Escentuals, our favorite mineral foundation brand, says that “it may look like a powder, but it feels like a cream.”
