5 Hot fall makeup colors

This fall, jazz up your makeup routine by trying one of the season’s hottest makeup colors.

Aqua eyeliner

Barely there mascara combined with aqua blue eyeliner makes a real statement for fall. We don’t usually think of aqua blue or seafoam green as a choice for fall, but it really works. Keep the rest of your makeup relatively neutral to make your eyeliner really pop. Aqua looks great with any eye color but is a fabulous complement to green eyes. Take a look at a sample of this makeup trend from the Jil Sander Fall 2011 show.

Orange eye shadow

Orange is an amazing color for fall, but we don’t usually see it in eye shadow. This season, that all changes, if the runways at fall Fashion Week were any indication. Models from Donna Karan, Thakoon, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Rag and Bone, and Rodarte (seen above) all were wearing orange shadow. That’s actually an orange-y caramel concealer on the Rodarte model’s lids (M.A.C Pro Longwear in NC45) and M.A.C lipstick in Photo.

Wine lipstick

Wine is one of the hottest colors for fall, from handbags to lipstick. Use an ultra-gloss burgundy or wine lip color, and keep the rest of your makeup very basic — just a coat of brown mascara and a light flush to your cheeks is enough. Deep, glossy lip color is sexy enough for an evening out, but not overdone for daytime if you keep the rest of your makeup simple and subtle.

White over black

For a unique take on the smoky eye, wear a chalk-white shadow over black or charcoal gray. Your eyes will look bigger and brighter than with a dark, smoky eye. This look was seen on the runways of the Salvatore Ferragamo show, and it’s already translating to city streets.

Nude makeup

Nude makeup has been trendy for a while now, and that will continue through fall. What we’re seeing most often is almost bare eyes with a very light rosy cheek and pale, matte lip color. Nude makeup doesn’t mean no makeup, though — if your skin needs a little help, use a sheer tinted moisturizer and a touch of concealer to even out your skin tone without looking overdone.
