Get your sparkle on this New Year’s Eve

It’s New Year’s Eve — time to shimmer, sparkle and shine. It’s that one night you can step outside yourself a little and take it up a notch. We’ve got some tips to get you party ready without too much muss or fuss.

Get nailed

Make your nails the life of the party every time you sip that martini with nail polish strips from Sally Hansen Salon Effects ($10) or Incoco ($11). There are festive holiday styles like snowflakes and candy cane stripes as well as metallic leopard and polka dots. Or try a crackle top coat like Farringdon gold crackle special effects top coat by Nails Inc. ($10) over your existing polish shade for a quick high wattage upgrade to your current color.

The eyes have it

Glitter eyeliner makes a special occasion party look easy to achieve. Get starry eyed with Urban Decay’s Heavy Duty Glitter Eyeliner ($18) — in shades from silver to bright turquoise to make your eyes pop with color. For a more subdued look, try NARS Glitter pencil in Danceteria ($24), a peachy nude with tiny particles of gold glitter.

Sealed with a kiss

All those midnight kisses, not to mention drinks and dancing beforehand, mean you need a lipstick that will go past the midnight hour. CoverGirl Outlast Lipstains ($7) make the grade with their long-lasting tint. For a glossy pout that won’t go away, paint your lips from nude to fuchsia with the wears like iron MAC ProLongwear lipglass line ($19).

Get your glow on

Give your décolleté and legs some sexy shimmer. Dust with a powder like LUSH’s Lustre ($15) with its tint of gold and light scent of reputed aphrodisiac jasmine. Like the idea of a lotion better? Just mix the powder into your favorite body lotion and you’re good to go.
