The People’s Choice Awards: Red carpet beauty trends

The red carpet at last night’s People’s Choice Awards was swimming with bedazzled starlets. There were great looks, so-so ones and downright risks and fails. What were the best looks of the night? We consulted the experts.

Bold lip

“I like a bold lip, but the color choice is wrong,” makeup artist Kimara Ahnert says of Lea Michele. She is a beautiful girl and you can’t get past the gum ball color lips. This color tends to work better on blondes. I would have loved red, bronze or even coral.

Strong eye

“I like the vamp look, but take it down a notch in intensity for the real life version,” says Ahnert of Vanessa Hudgens. This works for a TV performance or auditioning for Cat Woman. Get the look with black creme or liquid liner, black eyeshadow to contour the outer corner and crease of eye, silver gray shadow to smoke the lid of the eye and brush under bottom lashes on top of black eyeliner.

Fresh faced

“This makeup is my favorite… pretty, fresh and totally red carpet,” says Ahnert. Dramatic eyes are enhanced with a darker eyeshadow on outer corners of the lid and crease as well as the outer half of the under eye. Lashes are used and the right amount of shimmer shadow, on inner corners of the eye and makes the eyes pop and look open. Love the dewy bronzed skin achieved with a tinted moisturizer and how her lips almost match the pop of color on her cheeks.

Smoky eyes

The smoky eyes that really rocked last night were seen on Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lawrence and Vanessa Hudgens. They really pulled it off beautifully, said Gail Sagel, Make Up Artist, President & CEO of FACES Beautiful.

Best of show

“My personal faves of the night were Kim Kardashian for the most rockin’ hot look and Miley Cyrus for the most subdued, peachy pretty look,” says Sagel.
