The red carpet at last night’s People’s Choice Awards saw lots of leg, red and shockingly low backs. There were a lot of looks we loved — and others, not so much. What were your favorite looks?
The lowdown
It was definitely a showcase for young Hollywood who showed up with plunging necklines and backless detailing. “Who better than the 20 to 30 year old set?” comments Jeanne Hennessey, owner of Lorraine Roy Designer Collections in Danvers, Massachusetts. “If you have a beautiful back like Julianne Hough, by all means dare to bare it. A low back is stunning and sexy on the right person.”
There was a lot of eye-catching color on the red carpet; Faith Hill beautiful in red; Busy Phillips in cobalt blue and Kathy Griffin looked “hot” in bright pink.
Going green
The Vampire Diaries winner Nina Dobrev, Emma Stone, Whitney Cummings and even Jesse Tyler Ferguson opted to “go for the green,” points out Emmy award-winning stylist David Zyla.
While the shades of green chosen by Nina Dobrev, winner for The Vampire Diaries, Whitney Cummings and Emma Stone were the perfect shades for each actress, Nina’s dress and Emma’s jacket choices were fresh and unexpected, while putting a belt around Whitney’s shapeless sequined sack unfortunately did nothing to improve it. Jesse Tyler Ferguson opted for an olive shade for his slim suit and paired it with a festively feathered bow tie.
White white white
“A fashion snowstorm has hit LA!” exlaimed Zyla. Jennifer Morrison (beaded sheath), Courtney Hansen (asymmetrical ribbed jersey), Lea Michele (Grecian goddess), Miley Cyrus (architectural chic) and Ashley Benson (short and flirty) all opted for shades of white, from snow to ivory.
Best dressed
Ginnifer Goodwin: “How smart of her to make the event a real occasion by going for it!” says Zyla. A stunning hot pink dress, complemented beautifully with glamorous simplicity in her makeup and hair choices.
Terrence Howard: “He mastered the formal look without going black-tie with his velvet paisley printed jacket and deep chocolate shirt,” says Zyla.
Worst dressed
Robert Pattinson: Short sleeved camp shirt and jeans? “Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he was doing some work in the yard and got the emergency call that he was nominated for a People’s Choice Award?” jokes Zyla.
Suburgatory‘s Carly Chaikin: Why place the lightest color of a dress on the sides of the waist and hips? Had the colors been reversed, it would have emphasized feminine curves instead of making this beautiful lady look a bit out of proportion, says Zyla.
Classic example of “What was the designer thinking?” says Jeanne Hennessey, was Lea Michele‘s ’20s-inspired look by Marchesa. “It was far too much fabric for Michele’s petite figure,” says Hennessey.
