New York Fashion Week is underway and we are already seeing some fabulous beauty trends emerge for the Fall 2012 season.
Mod 60s-inspired makeup
On the runway at the Corey Lynn Calter show that kicked off New York Fashion Week, we saw a cool 60s-inspired cat-eye look that we’ll probably see a lot more of this year, on the catwalk and the city streets. Instead of basic black, this cat-eye makeup rocks modern, bold color, courtesy of Too Faced Cosmetics.
The fresh, fun look was described by Too Faced Global Artistry Director, Kalina Fernandez as if each model had “gotten into her mother’s makeup.”
Get the look
You can duplicate the look yourself with ease by following these tips for eyes, lips and face.
Eyes: The makeup artist used Too Faced Perfect Eyes Eyeliner in Perfect Peacock and Perfect Purple and traced along the natural lash line in a thick streak of color, flicking out at the edges past the upper lid, to create the cat-eye look.
Lips: Red lipstick is one of the hottest trends of the new season, from playful poppy shades to deep, dark reds. Here, the flirty look was created using Too Faced Lip of Luxury Lipstick in Drop Dead Red.
Face: The key to a fresh-faced look is to use a light hand when applying your makeup. You don’t want anyone to say, “Her foundation look great.” You want them to say, “Her skin looks fabulous.”
At the Corey Lynn Calter show, the models wore Too Faced Absolutely Flawless Concealer to hide any flaw (yes, even models have flaws), followed by Amazing Face Liquid Foundation. Their makeup was set with a dusting of Primed & Poreless Powder and cheekbones were accented with Ultra Flush Blush in Cocoa Rose.
Natural look
Other makeup trends are beginning to emerge at Fashion Week, and we like what we’ve seen when it comes to the natural look.
BCBG: At the BCBG Max Azria show, plenty of color was used in the fashions with color blocking in shades of teal and coral. However when it came to makeup, it was all about the natural look.
“BCBG always likes the minimal — the simple — so after the show, the woman can walk on the street, and no one’s going to say she was in the show,” said Charlotte Willer, the lead makeup artist.
Richard Chai: The Fall 2012 collection from Richard Chai also debuted at New York Fashion Week. The women’s collection was primarily comprised of shades of navy, gray and black in the form of stripes and florals, though we did see some red mixed in for a splash of color.
The collection had an urban, military appeal with a nice mix of structure and femininity. When it came to makeup, MAC Cosmetics makeup artist James Kaliardos channeled androgyny using the same products for both the male and female models, except for a dab of nude lip color for the women. “It sort of looks like a Peter Lindbergh photograph of Linda Evangelista or Guinevere [van Seenus],” he said.
