Are you blonde or looking to go blonde this summer? We’ll show you how to get the look of three of our favorite “golden girls,” so you can create that effortless and playful ‘do this season.
We catch up with celebrity hairstylist George Papanikolas from the Andy LeCompte Salon in West Hollywood to get the secrets on Lauren Conrad, Kate Hudson and Charlize Theron‘s light and perfectly styled manes.
Straight hair
The Lauren Conrad look:
“For Lauren’s color, you’ll want to ask your colorist for very pale blonde highlights,” Papanikolas says. “The color is more on the ash side.”
To get the style:
- Shampoo and condition your hair.
- Spray Joico Smooth Cure Thermal Styling Protectant in your hair, and then blow-dry.
- After the hair is completely dry, run the flat iron through the hair to give it a smooth, polished look.
Wavy hair
The Kate Hudson look:
“For Kate’s color, ask your colorist for a buttery blonde because you will want to start by lifting and warming up your base color to give the overall effect of that warm, buttery feel,” Papanikolas says. “Then, you can go back and do pale highlights to brighten up the overall effect, making sure to lift your base color every four to six weeks.” Highlighting tip: Only highlight every 10 to 12 weeks to keep the hair in its best condition.
To get the style:
- Start with Joico’s Body Lux Foam on wet hair before blow-drying to give the most volume and texture.
- Use a flat iron to twist the hair into the big, exaggerated waves.
- Use a shaping spray for touchable hold.
Short hair
The Charlize Theron look:
“For Charlize’s icy blonde color, ask for a full head of very pale highlights,” Papanikolas says. “If you are naturally darker, you may also need to lighten your base, but keep it within one to two shades to avoid pulling too much warmth.”
To get the style:
- Flip wet hair upside down and blow-dry to give full volume.
- Use a 1-inch curling iron to give soft waves to the bob. Tip: You will need a smaller iron because of the length of the hair.
