Hats do more than hide a bad hair day. They are also hot fashion accessories that can take any outfit from drab to fab. From funky fedoras to classic cloches, you’ll love all these fantastic hats for fall.
Beanies
Colorful knit caps are perfect for fall. They keep your head warm on cool mornings, hide frizzy hair and add a splash of color to you almost-always black wardrobe. Ideal for casual wear, a knit beanie will look great with your favorite jeans and sweaters this season. This bold orange knit beanie (ASOS, $10) will definitely turn some heads.
Berets
A slouchy beret is also a terrific casual option for fall. Look for knit berets in shades of yellow, green, burgundy and gray this year. We love the Pins and Needles marled beret (Urban Outfitters, $13) in neon yellow. This beret is eye-catching without being too bright. If you are looking for something a little more traditional, this unisex wool beret (American Apparel, $24) offers classic styling and comes in your choice of 14 colors.
Fedoras
Fedoras come and go in the fashion scene and this fall, we are going to see a lot more of them — especially teamed up with menswear-inspired fashions. If you aren’t sure how often you are going to rock a hat, don’t spend a bundle on one. You can find a number of very affordably priced hats in cool styles. You’ll adore this red wool fedora (Forever 21, $15) with its classic styling, grosgrain band and bow and low price point.
Cloches
Downton Abbey-inspired cloche hats are all the rage. These hats were a staple accessory for women during the World War I era. Check out this Nine West wool cloche (Macy’s, $20) with its floral accent for an ultra-feminine touch.
Newsboy caps
With all the wool, herringbone, tweed and other fall classics, the newsboy cap fits right in. You can wear a newsboy cap with everything from a trenchcoat, sweater dress and boots to a riding jacket and skinny jeans. Snag the Candie’s houndstooth newsboy hat (Kohl’s, $20) on sale.
Furry hats
In the Marc Jacobs fall 2012 collection, we saw some over-the-top, extra large, Dr. Seuss-like fur hats. Though we aren’t suggesting you get that kooky, playful fur hats will be popular this fall and winter. Check out the David & Young faux fur trapper hat (Macy’s $20) to keep you warm when the temperatures drop this fall.
