Latest trends in anti-aging products and cosmetic procedures

No longer do you have to miss significant time from work and hide out at home for weeks to get a little lift. Many procedures take under an hour with very little downtime. Check out the latest trends in anti-aging products and cosmetic procedures.

Peptides

If you’ve tried a new anti-aging line this year, it likely contains peptides. Peptides are short-chain proteins naturally found in your skin, which stimulate collagen production and protect elastin to smooth and nourish the skin. Peptides can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, expression lines and puffy bags, as well as hydrate and firm your skin. Some refer to peptides as “Botox without the pain.” The process is gradual with peptides. Most peptide anti-aging creams must be used twice daily for about four weeks before you see any significant results. Vampire facelift

You may have heard about the “vampire facelift” on The Rachael Ray Show, The Doctors or local news programs earlier this year. But despite its name, the vampire facelift is actually not a facelift at all. It’s a procedure called the Selphyl System that uses filler injections made primarily of the patient’s own blood, rather than artificial, collagen or fat fillers. The mixture is used to fill in wrinkles and acne scars, as well as correct cheek and under-eye hollows. It can be used on any area of the face or body that needs plumping or definition. The filler is created by drawing the patient’s blood, separating the platelets and then blending those platelets with a fibrin mixture.

The resulting mixture is then injected into areas of the face to induce growth of new collagen, skin tissue and blood vessels. It’s not usually used on loose folds or large wrinkles but rather more delicate lines. The procedure, like other filler injections, lifts the skin, thereby creating more volume and new blood flow. After a couple of weeks, the skin will look smoother with the improvement continuing for about 12 weeks. The results can last over a year. Selphyl, which hit the market in 2009,  generally costs between $1,000 and $1,500, and the in-office procedure normally takes less than 30 minutes.

The lunchtime Butt lift

Many people are turning to minimally invasive cosmetic procedures and treatments that can be done on their lunch hour with virtually no downtime. Botox, microdermabrasion, light chemical peels, non-surgical facelifts, fillers, sclerotherapy and other procedures can be done in under an hour (though some may need several treatments to complete). However, did you know that you can also get a derriere lift in less than 45 minutes?

Women who want to get a firmer, more youthful rear end can get this lunchtime procedure known as the Brazilian Thread Lift.

“I’ve never seen anything this quick and this dramatic,” says Dr. Bill Johnson at Innovations Medical in Dallas.” After two simple, 45-minute procedures using only local anesthetic, a patient can completely re-shape her backside.”

Dr. Johnson is the only physician outside of California and New York to be offering the procedure.

During the initial visit, while under local anesthesia, the patient has several specifically-designed sutures or plastic threads strung under the skin and across each butt cheek. The threads have a series of thin knots covered by tiny cones which are placed easily and with minimal discomfort. The cones create small fibrotic areas that function like little ligaments in the rear end. After three months, the patient returns to the office for a brief follow-up visit, during which the physician gently tightens each thread, providing a smooth, even lift of the buttocks.
