Sunburns are the downside to enjoying these great summer months, but don’t worry your pretty little singed self. I’m going to tell you how to deal with this unfortunate event and help you rehab your skin. Also, I have a star product to help you cover your sunburn that will be sure to leave your pretty crown less ruby.
Rehab your skin
What’s Julianne’s advice for camouflaging those awful summer sunburns (ya know, so we look hot for our NEXT beach party)?
Wear sunblock
Now, I don’t want to sound like your mom, but next time, wear sunblock! If you did wear sunblock, then up your SPF. I promise you will still get color even with SPF 50 slathered on your face. Also, if it’s overcast, this is what I like to call the “wolf in sheep’s clothing” weather. It may look harmless, but trust me, just because it is cloudy, the sun is still beating down on you, causing you to dry out, wrinkle, become more exposed to skin cancer, and yes… BURN.
Give your skin a break
Dealing with your sunburn can be a total bummer — not to mention painful. I would recommend letting your skin take a break. Sunburns may seem harmless, but you should treat them like any other burn you may get from cooking, or when us girls take a curling iron to the forehead (you know 95 percent of you have done this, so don’t try and play it cool). So, stay indoors for a day or three… depending on the severity of the burn of course.
Make sure you keep it cool
Dampen a cloth or paper towel with cool water and lay it over the face to bring the inflammation and temperature down. Next, apply aloe vera liberally over the affected areas and make sure to stay away from the eyes! The last thing you need is for those to start burning. Also, make sure your aloe vera is alcohol free. The only alcohol you need is at night to help you sleep, preferably in a martini glass. Try Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera.
Moisturize a ton!
Last, moisturize the you know what out of your skin! This will help with peeling and dryness. Try Orlane’s Gentle Soothing Cream. It’s hypoallergenic and great for sensitive or reactive skin.
Go easy on the beauty products
Ok, I see you don’t want to take doctors’ orders. I like you; you’re a party girl and can’t wait those few days until you go out again. I get it — it’s summertime and the livin’ is easy. If you want to try and hide your sunburn, all I can tell you is do NOT cake on the makeup! Not only will you look crazy and clown-like, but you will be making your sunburn worse. Putting all those chemicals on delicate skin and not letting it breathe is just inhumane. Maybe I’m being a little dramatic, but I’m a makeup artist, and the face is everything to me.
So, try something lightweight to dull the color like Make Up For Ever’s HD foundation ($42). It isn’t heavy and packs major coverage. Just one to two pumps and you’re on your way to a less lobster-ish appearance. Just remember, be good to your skin and it will be good to you. This is the only skin you get, unless you feel like getting all Anthony Hopkins from Silence on the Lambs on me.
