Scrape the bottom of a tube of lipstick to create a tinted lip balm that’s not only pretty, but moisturizing, too!
Who of us hasn’t sadly tossed a favorite lipstick with just a little left at the bottom of the tube, beyond your lips’ reach? Use what’s left and turn it into a tinted lip balm. You’ll still have your favorite hue, and in a moisturizing balm to boot! Use the tip of your finger or lip brush to apply the tinted lip balm.
You can find beeswax and sweet almond oil at stores like Hi-Health and Whole Foods. Check local craft supply stores for the balm containers and stickers to decorate the tops for a nice finishing touch.
From leftover lipstick to tinted lip balm
Supplies:
- 1 teaspoon pure shea butter
- 2 teaspoons sweet almond oil
- 1 teaspoon beeswax pellets (or grated beeswax)
- 1/4 teaspoon lipstick, more or less for desired color
- 1 (0.5-ounce) container with a lid
Instructions:
- Add the sweet almond oil, beeswax and lipstick to a glass measuring cup with a spout, and melt the ingredients in the microwave. You’ll want to do this gradually, heating in 30-second increments and stirring in between, until the ingredients are melted.
- When melted, mix with a spoon and quickly pour the mixture from the measuring cup into the container.
- Allow the containers to sit for about 30 minutes until the balm is solid, then add the lids. Decorate the lids if you’d like.
