Erin

Erin blogs at Magenta and Lime, where she shares her life as a 20-something newlywed as she and her husband work on DIY projects in their home to take it from builder grade to their own.

About her fireplace makeover, Erin says, “The fireplace was very blah when we moved in, so we updated it with crisp white paint and new glass mosaic tiles. We also built the faux barn door to cover the dreaded early 2000s hole in the wall over the mantel.”

Shannon Berrey

Shannon Berrey is an interior designer in the North Carolina mountains who strives for approachable, comfortable design that feels collected, personal and not at all contrived.

About her fireplace makeover, Shannon says, “I really wanted a rustic, artistic makeover, so using salvaged wood that we cut down into strips, we stacked it and topped it with a new custom mantel. The transformation is huge, and I love how unique it is!”

Kelly Mann

Kelly Mann blogs at Keeping up with the Manns, where she focuses on design, family, babies and some DIY projects that she and her husband tackle along the way in their 1944 home.

About her fireplace makeover, Kelly says, “Our house didn’t have a fireplace when we moved in, but the era of the home led way to a faux fireplace. Wanting a focal point of the room, I set out to design and build the mantel while my husband was out of town. Since it’s a nonworking fireplace, I filled it with stacked chopped pieces of pine wood. We love it!”
