Summer is for sweet scents and sunbathing. Thankfully, the fall season smells a little less like sunscreen.
Autumn means falling leaves, scarves, pumpkin patches and perfumes that are premiering just before the holidays. Before rushing to the register to purchase last year’s (or last season’s) “it” odor, spice things up with a brand new bouquet of enticing aromas.
While smelling like Halloween (candy) or Thanksgiving (cooking) sounds crave-worthy, here are some fragrances worth whiffing before winter.
Killer
Queen
Launched in August — in a ruby shaped bottle — Katy Perry brings perfume center stage. The top notes are wild berries, dark plum and bergamot accords while the main note is a celosia. Sambac jasmine and rainbow plumeria are included as well. Cashmere, patchouli and liquid praline are in the base. There’s a body lotion too! (Sephora, $49)
Lolita Lempicka
Elle L’aime
This feminine floral scent has top notes of bergamot, neroli and lime, mid notes of coco essence, jasmine and ylang-ylang and base notes including vanilla, myrrh and sandalwood. The fragrance was inspired by the scent of radiant femininity and features timeless gold packaging. (Neiman Marcus, $100)
Kerala
Ashok
The intensely fragrant India-native Ashok Blossom, with elegance and a spiritual history, inspired the scent. Notes of ripe pear, deep violet, sheer jasmine and velvety apricot float lightly along a musky amber and green-floral spice. Launched in October, the scent calls to a reflective calm drawn from inner strength. (LisaHoffmanBeauty.com, $65)
EAU DE LACOSTE
Pour Femme
Inspired by LACOSTE’s iconic and simple fashion design philosophy, the floral-scented perfume became available in stores in September. Its top notes spark freshness of white pineapple with mandarin and bergamot while white floral and orange flower and jasmine sambac are woven in to create a clean scent. The base is composed of sandalwood and vanilla enveloped with vetyver and Peru balsam. (LACOSTE boutiques, $65)
BOSS JOUR
Pour Femme
White florals with vibrant citrus, each spritz is composed of grapefruit flower and lime, freesia and lily, honeysuckle and musky notes of white birch and creamy amber. It doesn’t hurt that the face of the fragrance is Gwyneth Paltrow. Inspired by the first day of light, the product was new to shelves (and virtual aisles) in September. (Hugo Boss stores, $75)
Elizabeth Arden
UNTOLD
A sparkling pink pepper fused with crisp bergamot opens the scent, with fruity accents of pear and blackcurrant bud. Delicate gardenia petals complement heated ambers that cascade over a hypnotic musk. Inspired by (and for) the multifaceted modern woman, the fragrance encourages her diverse facets to shine. (Macy’s stores, $79)
“Photograph”
Women
Feminine and clean, the scent is watery, fruity and floral, with top notes of freesia, melon, peach, grapefruit and lemon. Its middle notes are comprised of muguet (Lily of the Valley), rose, lavender and gardenia with musky, amber-y base notes. Personal style was the inspiration for this perfume, which is available now. (Fragrance Express, $65)
Dolce & Gabbana
Light Blue
Notes of Sicilian citron, bluebell and Granny Smith apples make up this scent, but that’s not all. Jasmine sambac, white rose and cedarwood are also components. Available now, the fragrance is a fall staple (but worn year-round, too). With a variety of sizes, it’s meant to evoke happiness — the joy of living. (Sephora, starting at $25)
