2013 Home decor trends we hope never grow old

The year 2013 was an absolute wonder for home decor, and for this, we fell in love! From seven new ways for chevron to style mixing, our homes were turned into a fun and stylish mix of our own personalities — so much so, that we’re just not ready to part ways with this year’s trends.

Chevron

It’s been said over and over again — chevron is here to stay. And in 2013, chevron not only popped up in every store, inspiration board and home, it took on an entire world of its own, from the wide zigzag trend we grew to love to a thinner, curvier design to the emerging arrow design. Chevron is not only a unique design, it literally can fit any home and decor. Use the traditional look for a traditional and country decor, the curvier design for shabby-chic lovers and the arrow design for fun and flirty modern-decor ladies. Whatever your heart desires, chevron is sure to fit your style needs and adoration, whether it be in the home or in your closet.

Ikat

Ikat didn’t get as large as the chevron trend, but it most definitely has the potential. It’s hot, it’s cool, it’s different and, most of all, it’s amazing. And as we saw this pattern emerging in 2012, ikat made its home decor mark in 2013. The blogger at Rue La La believes the trend creates a vibrant, exotic vibe, and we couldn’t agree more. Whether on a throw pillow or going bold with curtains, ikat looks great in a home. We expect this trend to continue to gain steam for at least another few years.

Metallic

Surprisingly, metallics were hot in 2013. As mentioned by the blogger at The House of Smiths, metallic decor has the ability to make a room classy, interesting and romantic. And like every other trend featured this year, it was available in a variety of colors, functions and accents to make your style all your own. Not into the yellow-gold of the ’80s? Go for the sophisticated style of the bronzed gold accent or a glamorous glitter gold! Easy to add to any color scheme, including the hot cream and neutral trend, the metallic trend is something to pay attention to for years to come.

Accenting with animals

Another trend loved by The House of Smiths blog is accenting your home with animals. No longer do we love just the jungle animals, now we embrace the entire kingdom. From cows to giraffes, animals were popping up all over home decor stores. And although some people may not be digging the trend, Shelly from The House of Smiths believes that the little furry, lacquered or feathered friends bring a lighthearted feel to the space. And because a home needs to be a place we can feel comfortable in, the animal trend can continue beyond 2013.
