We’ve got the blues

Although emerald green was Pantone’s color of the year and popped up in homes everywhere, we saw another color hit the decor scheme big in 2013. Blue was looking great on accent walls, pieces of furniture and small trinkets throughout the house. And as Shelley from The House of Smiths admits, it wasn’t the plain old blue that caught her (and our) eye — it was the extraordinary mints, peacocks, turquoises, teals and royal blues that stood out. A bit different but all in all amazing, blue is bound to outlast any color trend of 2014.

Vintage

In 2013, we took a peek in our grandmother’s attic. And guess what? We liked it! We loved it so much that we not only took on granny’s looks, we went to the thrift store to fill our homes up with more vintage finds. Blame it a bit on the recession, or simply because it’s a rare and exceptional look with a story, the vintage trend is sure to keep up with the changing times.

Antlers, antlers, antlers

Referring to her obsession as “antler mania,” The Enchanted Home’s blogger believes that the hot trend of antler accents is just emerging. Available at home decor stores through 2013, the rustic charm is starting to take bloggers’ homes by storm. Both the fake and real items are hot in France and are about to become an American love and tradition. An accent that looks good in any room, the antler trend is something not only to not miss out on, but to put in your home immediately.

Painted & restored furniture

The blogger at Home Stories A to Z predicted that furniture painted and restored to a French country look was going to be hot in 2013. And not only was she correct in her prediction, the trend burst through not only French country furniture, but anything that needed to be vamped up. Whether it was in a thrift store find or an item you picked up directly from Target, your furniture color palette was able to grow by twofold in 2013. A fun trend that gives your home a bright, fresh and stylish look, it would be a shame to lose out on this in future years.

Style mixing

Gone are the days of a one-size-fits-all style. Ladies who love country, shabby chic and modern can mix the three together without any sweat off their backs. As Shayna from The Wood Grain Cottage says, mixing styles is not only cool, it’s exciting! Not being afraid to mix styles, designs, patterns and decor schemes makes your home look personal. And really, who wants the same cookie-cutter look for every home? No one. So please, 2014, 2015, 2016 and beyond… don’t toss out the ability to mix styles!
